Our history
Mitz's story was born from an encounter that changed everything. On a trip to the Guerrero mountains, Judy Achar met María, a woman who hand-woven bags from potato wrappers using the staple technique.
When showing her one of her pieces, María said: “Mitz,” which in Nahuatl means “for you.”
Judy took that bag on a cruise, and to her surprise, it was auctioned for $300. That's when she realized that these pieces had enormous value, not just as objects, but as possibilities. It was then that she decided to change the question: instead of asking companies for money to support women in vulnerable situations, why not collect their trash and transform it into real opportunities?

This is how Mitz was born: a way to turn trash into hope. To transform waste into dignity.
Fifteen years later, more than 2,500 women have been trained in artisanal upcycling techniques, life skills, visionary thinking, and financial literacy.
Thanks to their talent and collective efforts, they have generated more than 20 million pesos in green, fair, and flexible income.

It all started with a woven bag. And a word in Nahuatl.
Today, Mitz remains just that: for you, for them, for the planet.
Currently, we work with more than 10 artisanal upcycling techniques and a wide variety of materials: plastic film, rags, textiles, canvas, banners, chocolate and coffee bags... Everything that seemed to have no future finds a new form here.
